Know or Meet?

Both meet and know can be translated as conocer.

Meet is used to express the first time that you conoces someone - you introduce yourselves to each other. From that moment on, you know the person though not very well.

e.g. I know David. He's Rachel's boyfriend. I met him a couple of months ago.

There is also "get to know" - "llegar a conocer" - which we use to describe the process of discovering more about people.

e.g. She seems nice. I'd like to get to know her.

Meet can also have the meaning of "quedar con" or "encontrar"

e.g. I meet my friends every Saturday.
e.g. You'll never guess who I've just met*.

* Here you could use bump into - a chance meeting with someone ie not arranged.

Evening Paloma,

Let's see how you did. All fine except for:

4. HAVE you KNOWN each other for long?

8. How long HAVE you KNOWN James?

10. I wouldn't MIND GETTING TO KNOW her better. (mind + verb-ing)

11. Well, IT'S BEEN NICE MEETING you. I hope to see you again soon. (Compare to 1 - you say this when you say goodbye to someone)

12. I MET an old school friend on the way here.

16. I'm sure I'VE MET you somewhere before.
