Blowing dandelions

Close your eyes and make a wish. Blow the seeds off a dandelion in one go and your wish will come true.

What other ways of making wishes do you know?

What do you wish you could change about your appearance or personality?
  • I wish I was a bit taller.
  • I wish I was less moody and less clumsy.
  • I wish I could concentrate on things more than I do.
What do you wish you knew how to do?
  • I wish I knew how to cook more things.
  • I wish I could swim.
How do you wish your life was different?
  • I wish I didn't have to work to earn money.
  • I wish I lived in a quieter flat.
  • I wish I could see my parents more often.

What do you wish you had done differently when you were younger?
  • I wish I hadn't given up playing the piano.
  • I wish I had gone to university. / I wish I'd gone to university.

What do you wish people would or wouldn't do?
  • I wish people would consider others more.
  • I wish people wouldn't drop litter.
  • I wish my neighbour wouldn't make so much noise.
  • I wish my students would work harder.

If you need reminding of how to construct sentences with "wish", have a read of this previous post.

What are your wishes? Use the three different structure as I have done above.

Read these examples of "wish" and do the interactive exercises that follow.

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
I wish I could break all the chains holding me
I wish I could say all the things that I should say
Say 'em loud say 'em clear
For the whole wide world to hear

I wish I could share
All the love that's in my heart
Remove all the bars that keep us apart
And I wish you could know how it is to be me
Then you'd see and agree that every man should be free

I wish I could be like a bird in the sky
How sweet it would be if I found I could fly
Well I'd soar to the sun and look down at the sea
And I'd sing cos I know how it feels to be free

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
I wish I could break all the chains holding me
And I wish I could say all the things that I wanna say
Say 'em loud say 'em clear
For the whole wide world to hear
Say 'em loud say 'em clear
For the whole wide world to hear
Say 'em loud say 'em clear
For the whole wide world to hear

One love one blood
One life you've got to do what you should
One life with each other
Sisters, brothers

One love but we're not the same
We got to carry each other Carry each other
One One One One One...

I knew how it would feel to be free
I knew how it would feel to be free

Hi Graham,

I've made the exercises about wishes and regrets. Some BBC learning english, words in the news, and the video about supermoon.

See you later,
Ángel

Hi, Graham. When I find an eyelash on my face I close my eyes and I make a wish. I’ve read de grammar and I’ve done the exercises.
I haven’t done more exercises because of I have a cold and I feel a bit under the weather. I hope I see you tomorrow.

Angel:

I MAKE exercises (well, some of them), you DO them.

I've added a post about expressions with "make" and "do".

I hope your Tuesday hasn't been as bad as you feared.

Hi Montse,

Don't you have to blow the eyelash of your finger?

I haven’t done more exercises BECAUSE I have a cold... (BECAUSE OF + NOUNS)

Hope you get rid of the cold quickly!
