Turin hoax?

Turin Shroud goes on display for first time in 10 years

The Turin Shroud, which is believed by some Christians to be the burial cloth of Jesus Christ, has gone on display for the first time in 10 years.

The shroud is expected to draw some two million visitors to the northern Italian city over the next few weeks.

The cloth shows the faint image of a bearded man with stains of blood on his hands and feet.

Tests in 1988 suggested it dated from the medieval period but those carbon dating findings are contested.

Measuring just over 4m x 1m (14ft x 3.5ft), the frail linen sheet shows an image of a man's body complete with bloodstains and what appear to be wounds from crucifixion.

Millions of Christians believe the cloth is the burial shroud of Jesus.

In 1988, special tests dated it to between 1260 and 1390, suggesting it was a medieval forgery.

But since then, other scientists have cast doubt on those findings and appealed to the Vatican to allow new tests using more modern techniques.

Some two million people are expected to visit Turin Cathedral to see the shroud, which will be on public view for six weeks, kept in a bullet-proof and climate-controlled case.

Pope Benedict XVI is due to fly to Turin on 2 May to pray before the shroud.

Hi Graham:

I´ve been very interested with this article.

It´s very interesting the explanation about the carbono 14 results.

I´d really like going to Turin, not only to see the Turin Hoax.
I´ve seen the Holly Shroud in Oviedo, and it´s impressing but I couldn´t see a face, I was a bit far from it.

The video hasn´t been as understandable as the last I had seen in your blog.

Tatcher´s video and this are a bit long for me. I haven´t been able to finish them. (I can´t glue to the screen a long time).

Have a good weekend¡

Hi Miriam

To be honest, I had never heard of the Holy Shroud of Oviedo.

So I googled it and I have been reading about it.

I am sceptical about the authenticity of the Sudarium and the Shroud.

Ive been very INTERESTED IN this article.

THE EXPLANATION about the carbon results IS very interesting.

I'D REALLY LIKE TO GO to Turin BUT not only to see the Turin SHROUD (a hoax suggests it is not real).

Ive seen the HOLY Shroud in Oviedo, and IT'S IMPRESSIVE/I WAS IMPRESSED but I couldnt see a face, I was a bit far from it.

The Sudarium is supposedly the cloth that was wrapped around the head of Christ so it doesn't form any image like the Turin Shroud.

The video hasnt been as understandable as THE LAST ONE I SAW in your blog.

Thatchers video and THIS ONE are a bit long for me. I havent been able to finish them. (I cant BE GLUED to the screen FOR a long time).

I'm going to try to post links to videos as much as possible.

Hi graham:

I´ve been having a look at this article and I´ve found it very interesting because I like reading this kind of things and watch TV programmes related to it. Nevertheless I´m not so sure about the Shroad´s authenticity. However it could be considered a masterpiece.

What I don't get is how the Sudarium and the Shroud came to be separated, and how one ended up in Oviedo and the other in Turin.

I have no idea about it. It seems to be a miracle. It´s so difficult that these two cloths traveled around Europe when there wasn´t transport like train or something like that. I suppose "ended up" is the same of "appeared". Isn´t it?

Hi Graham:

I think the shroud was put on the face when he died and the sudarium was the blanket wich covered all the body, including the face when He was buried.

You can believe or not their autenticity, but It´s sure that they are specials.

I´m not sure that Santiago Apostle is in Santiago de Compostela, but I´m sure It is an special place.

Changing the subject, I can´t believe you tell us a really interesting film and you forget the end. I can´t see it in Youtube and I need to know what´s the matter with the brother.
I don´t remember to have seen this film.

I hope you have enjoyed your weekend.

See you¡

"ended up" doesn't mean exactly THE SAME AS "appeared".

It means that you finally find yourself in a particular place or situation.

He went to Australia for his gap year and he ended up marrying a girl from Sydney.

Where did you end up last night? Well, we went out for dinner, then we went to our local for a few drinks and we ended up in a nightclub.

Hi Miriam

I just think that nobody wants to admit that they were wrong about the Shroud.

Imagine after so many years of people blindly believing its authenticity, the Shroud is conclusively proven to be of an age different from that of Christ.

...the sudarium was the blanket WHICH covered THE WHOLE BODY,including the face when He was buried.

You can believe THEIR AUTHENTICITY OR NOT, but they are SURELY SPECIAL. (adjs don't have plural!)

Im not sure that Santiago Apostle is in Santiago de Compostela, but Im sure it is A special place. (do you mean the burial place of Santiago the Apostle?)

Changing the subject, I cant believe you TELL US ABOUT a really interesting film and you forget the end. I cant see it in Youtube and I need to know WHAT the matter with the brother IS. (indirect statement)

I dont REMEMBER HAVING seen this film. (remember + verbING = in the past)

There is sometimes a problem with copyright and often clips are removed as quickly as they are posted.

OK, Graham: thank you for the explanation about the meaning of "ended up". Now I know what it exactly means. I´m going to include it in my vocabulary.

First time I've heard about Turin shroud story I was amazed. I was eight years old at that time... I think that's probably a forgery which was made to increase people's faith. Middle Ages was a time on which the Church (as an institution) increased her power. Miracles were a part of the process and it seems to work even nowadays.

I have seen the video. I've got an earphones! Very interesting and useful to learn.

I tend to agree with you, Marta. I find it difficult to understand how people blindly believe miracles and anything related to religion. I suppose you call it faith.

Glad you've got your earphones and enjoy the videos. I think they are great because, like the articles, they are short.
