6 minute English - "showrooming"

Today is the start of the sales in Spain. Are you going to look for a bargain or like me, you can't face the crowds?

Did you spend too much money on presents?

Do you know what "showrooming" is? Listen to 6 minute English to find out. If you find it too difficult, read the transcript as you listen. Take a note of the new expressions.

Then you can read  about the peril of showrooming.

If you don´t have too much money, you have to think very well what to buy when you give a present... I like to buy funny staff, because most people like it, and it´s fun... "Showrooming" is when you try an item in a shop, but you buy it Online.

I have listened it,
I am not sure showrooming has a lot of advantages because you have to go to the shop...the main advantage of online shopping is that you don´t need go to it.
But, at least, you don´t have to queuing and is cheaper.

Hi Laura,

Did you venture onto the streets on Saturday? The pavements were crowded - what a nightmare!

I'm not sure how many of them were shopping. I didn't see that many bags. Maybe, they were "showrooming".

I have listened to it (read the previous comments - it's the third time, just in this post, that I've had to correct this).

But, at least, you don´t have to queue and it is cheaper.

I guess that the idea of "showrooming" is that you can see if you like the item in the shop.

See you tomorrow.

Hi Graham! It's Inés

I've understood what showrooming is, although I don't really like the idea. Showrooming consists on going to the shops to see the product you want to buy, and then going online to buy it when you get home. I personally don't understand this, if you are at the shop, and you have seen what you want, why would you wait more days until it arrives home? Some people say that way you don't have to queue. Even though I know how stressful queues can be, those are the disadvantages of buying something: you have to suffer in order to enjoy it afterwards!

See you soon!

Hi Inés,

I'm surprised that you don't like the idea of showrooming. Apart from avoiding queues, you save money. With the money you save, you can buy even more things.

...consists of going...
