Catwoman back in news

Woman fined for Coventry cat wheelie bin cruelty

A woman filmed dumping a cat in a wheelie bin has been fined £250 after admitting a cruelty offence.

The RSPCA charged Mary Bale after CCTV cameras showed her throwing four-year-old Lola into a bin outside her owners' home in Coventry.

Bale, 45, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a cat. A charge of not providing the cat with a suitable environment was dropped.

The incident took place in Brays Lane in August.

Bale's actions sparked outrage when Lola's owner Darryl Mann posted the footage on the internet.

He found the footage on his CCTV recorder while searching for the missing cat.

Within hours, angry messages had been posted online and later a Facebook page, reportedly calling for Bale's death, was removed.

Mr Mann, and his wife Stephanie, said they had been "stunned" by the public reaction to the footage and asked people not to take matters into their own hands.

I don't think she deserves any sympathy. Do you?

What do you think about the amount of media coverage this story has received?

What would you do if she was your neighbour?

It's true that in London there are cameras everywhere! I think there are 1 camera for each 8 inhabitants...
About the Cat Woman, I think she deserves a punishment but not all this public lynching... People are a little bit overacting about this issue....
See you later!

It´s increible all the history.
A woman who threw a cat to a bin, a camera (like a big eye) that see everything, mass media that persecute to that woman who threw the cat, etc...
I think that it´s bad that a woman do that, but also it´s bad that cameras records everything, that mass media persecute to that woman, etc...

Wow! What a lot of interest this story has created! I'll reply to you in the order that you appear.

First, Begoña:

Why DID SHE DO IT? I really DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY. But THANK GOD that the camara was there. I DON'T AGREE WITH HAVING camaras EVERYWHERE but in this case I AM GLAD THAT THEY DID.

There are CCTV cameras everywhere in the UK. They can deter crime and help to solve crimes but how do you feel knowing that your every move is being recorded.

This man has CCTV on his private property. He might have installed it after being burgled.

This woman was unaware that her actions were being recorded, and without a camera there, she would have gone unpunished.

Next up Maria:

IT'S a funny story AND THE VIDEO MADE ME LAUGH. I THINK THAT PEOPLE ARE TOO PROTECTIVE OF ANIMALS.

I don't like cats AND I THINK THAT THE CAT OWNER WENT TOO FAR BY POSTING IT ON THE INTERNET.

It's a good idea but I HAVE NEVER DONE IT.

What do you think the good idea is? I hope you mean posting the video on internet. :-)

I know that I would have done the same as the owner. What's more, once I had tracked the woman down, I'd make her life a misery. I don't have any sympathy with her whatsoever.

Next Natalia:

I think there IS ONE camera for EVERY EIGHT inhabitants...
AS FOR the Cat Woman, I think she deserves a punishment but not all this public lynching... People ARE OVERREACTING SLIGHTLY about this issue....

I agree that the media love ths story. They knew it would cause an outrage because, on the whole, the British care for their animals.

I say, let her take it!

Finally Felix:

THE WHOLE STORY IS INCREDIBLE.

A woman who threw a cat INTO a bin, a camera (like a big eye) that SEES everything, mass media that persecute THE woman who threw the cat AND SO ON.

I think that it´s bad that a woman DOES that KIND OF THING, but IT'S ALSO bad that CAMERAS RECORD everything, that THE mass media HAVE PERSECUTED that woman, etc...

The amount of CCTV surveillance is a hot topic in the UK. For a country that supposedly values its privacy and freedom, we are the most watched country in the world.

But like Begoña, I'm glad that there was a camera in this case.

Hi Lucia,

I agree with you. While I respect some people don't care for animals, I don't understand how someone can do them harm.

What got me was the way this woman did it on the spur of the moment. I doubt it was the first time that she has been cruel to an animal.

I have A CAT and i can't understand how a person COULD DO SUCH A THING. I want to talk about the PROTECTION OF ANIMALS, I DISAGREE with belkis, I dont think that ANIMALS are too protected. have you ever seen BULLFIGHTING OR ILLEGAL animal fights? They are INDEFENSIBLE.
