Hi Graham,

I see you have chosen a quotation very sensitive from Taylor Hood, usual for you. I don’t know who is Taylor Hood, but I agree with that. What is the reason of make fun of someone? It’s stupid because everyone never is the cause of make fun. The dunces go through the world thinking they are superior. This arrogant behavior demonstrates a short mind. Everyone has feelings that another can’t understand it.

See you.
Graham said…
Hi José,

Wow - almost a month without replying to you!

The tweet is a random one. I have no idea who Taylor Hood is.

The story hit the headlines recently. It has a happy ending. The man they made fun of was invited to a party in Los Angeles.

I see you have chosen a very sensitive quotation from Taylor Hood, which is typical of you. I don’t know who Taylor Hood is, but I agree with her / what she says. What is the point of making fun of someone? It’s stupid because nobody deserves to be ridiculed. Only dunces go around the world thinking they are superior. This arrogant behavior demonstrates a narrow mind. Everyone has feelings that someone else can’t understand.

Hi “Defender animals”,

I’m going to complain to The Queen of the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II, the title of “The Protector of Animals” for you. You don’t lose chance to show skills of animals in your blog. In this case, an elephant kicks up and throws rubbish to the bin with his leg and trunk (Manual skill). It imitates human beings because uses the bin (Intellectual skill). Also, it denounces human behaviour so they are dirty (Skill that several human brains don´t have).

See you.
Graham said…
Hi José,

I think there are more deserving recipients of the title than me :-)

I’m going to recommend that the Queen of the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II, bestows you with the title of “The Protector of Animals”. You don’t miss a chance to show skills of animals in your blog. I'm not sure what you mean by denounce.

Complain = reclamar / quejarse (when you are not happy about something)

See you tomorrow!

Hi,everyone!.
I hade three mistakes in the first part: nº5,nº6,and nº9.
A couple of questions: what´s more common,"queue" or "line"?.
What´s the difference between "crop" and "harvest"?.
About the tweet "Is it harmful to run every day?",I´m completely agree with the conclusions!.
The rest is important to recover yourself. Is better running on a soft surface to protect your joints. You have to change your training routine from time to time. It´s a good thing to combine running with other kinds of exercise. And maybe the most important of all:you have to worm before, and to do some stretching after...
See you soon!.
Roberto said…
Sorry... I wanted to say "I completely agree".
Graham said…
Hi Roberto,

How's things?

Where are you studying English now?

I think "line" is more US English.

"Crops" are what a farmer grows eg. potatoes, wheat, rice and so on. The "harvest" is the cutting and collecting of the crops.

A rest is important because it allows the body to recover. Running on a soft surface is better as it protects your joints. ... you have to warm up before and do some stretching after...

Hope you can join us the next time we get together.

Hi,Graham!. Hi,everybody!.

Everything is fine.

I´m studying English in a small Academy in Malasaña,near Bilbao. I don´t remember the name. Nothing to scream and shout, but it´s not expensive and keeps me in contact with the language.

Maybe the next time...

Graham said…
Hi Roberto,

It's not in my old Street of San Andrés, is it? I can't remember its name either but it seems very run down.

The main thing is that you are getting something out of it.

Nothing to scream and shout about or it's nothing to write home about .

See you soon

Hi!.

I think so...
William´s School, or something like that... And yes, it´s in visible decline,ja,ja... But it´s good for me to practice the speaking, and learn some new vocabulary, phrasal verbs, etc.

See you soon.

Hi Roberto,

It would have been handy for me to work there but I think they would have paid even worse than the pittance I get now. lol
José said…
Hi Graham and Roberto,

This expression “ha ha” means that you laugh of the previous sentence. Is it okay? Do you know any more expression?

For instance, if you want to toast, you say “cheers”. When you sneeze in Scotland, your friends say “bless you”. If you want to propose to girlfriend, you can say “I love you”. To answer to who thanks you can say: “Not at all” or “You’re welcome”. Your work partner says “Congratulations” when you are Grandad. In Spain, if the company of the building sector dismisses anyone, he says “Me han dado el boleto”, but I don’t know how it says in Scotland. If someone passes away, I don’t know how it says to do the condolences. English people say “Please” a lot of times, but this word has fallen into disuse in Spain.

Please, Graham, check the previous comment and tell us more expression about it.

See you.

Hi José,

Do you remember what LOL stands for? I wonder when it came into use?

You say "cheers" when you raise a glass though many people use it like "thanks" nowadays. When making a toast or toasting sb/stg you say "here's to Graham / the baby / our summer holidays..."

If someone passes away, there is not much you can say apart from "I'm sorry".

If you lose your job, you might say I got the sack.

Hi, Graham and José:

I suppose that´s the reason why most english teachers are so young... I mean, the low salary...

"LOL"("Laughing out Loud"),I diden´t know that expression...

I love seeing how the blog keeps alive!! Graham, in Spain when somebody passes away they say "te acompaño en el sentimiento". It sounds quite old but people uses it very often.
I agree with José, we know grammar, vocabulary...but we don't know common expresions like "te invito a una copa" for instance...I get you a drink???
I'm afraid that they only way to cacth all those expresions is l ,iving among natives.
Well, the holiday time is finally here. I hope you all have a good time wherever you are going to spend your holidays.
Kisses.

Hi Graham,

This year we don`t talk about football in the blog. I don´t know if you want to give an intellectual air to your blog or you ignore the sport king. As you are a runner, only dedicate yourself to the marathon. It´s possible that you don´t want to wound to the losers because Scottish people are very sensitive. Anyway, I think the Madrilenian teams have lost because the reductions of Government. For instance, Ronaldo and Ramos are charged little and they are going to the employment office. It´s not obligatory to the footballers be efficient, if they are not charge a lot of money. They are not like the civil servants, Graham. On the other hand, the Atleti didn´t have luck, for first time in its life. I think Spain is going to win the Europe Campeonato next year and we are going to play with Scotland. Scotland is fingers and thumbs.

See you.

Hi Montse,

I often wonder why I have kept going with the blog. You will have seen that I don't create nearly as many posts as I used to. Nobody has complained .so far :-)

Have a great time in Prague. I think it is worth getting up early to visit the sights before the hordes of tourists arrive.

Hi José,

I didn't know that you were into football. I can't imagine you like these overly-excited men that we see on the telly jumping up and down and singing "campeones, campeones oh ay oh ay oh ay"

Ask me about "wound" and "charge" in our next class. I'm too tired to explain it all now. I need to have a siesta - just like the civil servants.

José said…

Sorry Graham, you have to get used to working with a dunce. The civil servants have not time to have a siesta. In Spain every day we say “Campeones, campeones, oé, oé oé”, but Scottish people never say it because they never are the winners on football. What “oh ay oh ay oh ay” means? Is it like oé, oé?

See you.

Hi José,

Now that I am on holiday, I am having a siesta most days :-)

Civil servants have no time to have a siesta. In Spain we say “Campeones, campeones, oé, oé oé” every day, but Scottish people never say it because they are never the winners at football / they never win at football. What does "oh ay" mean?
