Dark clouds hang over monarchy

Spanish royal family hit by fraud scandal

The once squeaky-clean Spanish royal family has become immersed in a growing fraud scandal that reveals how members of King Juan Carlos's family may have cashed in on the monarchy's good name.

At the centre of the scandal is the king's son-in-law Iñaki Urdangarin, a former Olympic-medal-winning handball player who became the Duke of Palma after marrying Juan Carlos's sporty daughter, the infanta Cristina.

Hi. This is Enrique, from Ministery of Justice.
I didn't like monarchy before this. They think they have more rights than ordinary people, and it's wrong, in my opinion. I hope Justice do the right way...

Hi Enrique,

I think I have just about enough time to reply to another comment before rushing to my next class.

I couldn't disagree more. I think monarchies are ON THE WHOLE better than the alternative.

I don't see how Spain would be BETTER OFF without the royal family.

Having said that, I agree with you that nobody should be ABOVE THE LAW.

Hi, Graham. I’ve never been in favour of the monarchy and things like those get worse my opinion about it. I really hope that if Urdangarin is guilty, they don’t allow him to get away with murder.

Montse,

I don't think that their is any institution around the world that is untouched by scandal. ON THE WHOLE, in my opinion, monarchies are less likely to be involved in financial scandals.

and things like THIS MAKE ME FEEL WORSE about it.

Let's see how the STORY UNFOLDS....
