Hi Montse,

We are almost at the end of another year. I'm looking forward to my holidays too.

In a few weeks' time I'll be off to Scotland. I'll spend five weeks there and also go for a few days to Berlin with my mother. When I come back to Spain, I'll go to Cadiz for 10 days. I've never been before so it'll be great.

When are you off on your cruise?

I'll publish and correct your answers as soon as Isabel has done the test too.

I remember you felt like going to Cádiz last year, so in the end you are going to get it! I I have only been there once, many years ago, exactly in Puerto de Santa María, and I liked it a lot. There are long beaches, weather is nice and food… what am I going to tell you? especially the “pescaíto frito” , you have to try it.
I will fly to Copenhagen the 5th of June to set sail the day after. We will spend a day in Germany but I won’t visit Berlin because it would take me three hours to get there from the port of Warnemünde.
I am tired of hearing about recession, cuts, rescue and things like that so, I am looking forward to enjoying my holidays too.

Hi Montse!

I've been talking about going to Cádiz for years now but at last I've booked my holidays there. I'm really looking forward to it.

I have only been there once, many years ago, to Puerto de Santa María to be exact and I liked it a lot. There are long beaches, the weather is nice and the food ... what can I say? especially the “pescaíto frito” , you have to try it.

I won't be trying the "pescaíto frito" I'm afraid. You have forgotten I'm not a fan of sea-food. I guess the menus will be made up almost entirely of fish so, like on other holidays, it'll be "filete de ternera" and salad for me.

Here are the corrections:

18. How often do you go swimming?

27. In the past, most women stayed at home. Nowadays most of them go out to work.

"currently" is a valid translation of "actualmente" but it is too formal for this context. I'd use "nowadays" here because you are comparing the past to the present.

31. He looks Spanish but he's Swedish really.

We use "look" with adjectives and "look like" with nouns. So it'd be OK to say: "He looks like a Spaniard"

44. I usually complain if the service is bad in a restaurant; especially if it is expensive.

We can use "claim" for unemployment benefit among other things.

50. I'll see you in a fortnight because I won't be here next week.

a fortnight = two weeks. We use it much more than the Spanish use "quincena".

Well done, Montse!

José,

Here are your corrections:

11. His name is David, isn't it?
Yes, I think so
or No, I don't think so.

14. He spends a lot of time playing football.
He's really into football.
He's interested in playing football.
He's good at playing football.

16. They've known each other since they were at school together.
They met when they were at school.

17. I get on really well with her. We have the same sense of humour.

19. You aren't allowed to use a mobile phone on a plane. You need to turn it off.

20. I can't stand it when you do that. It's really irritating.

21. The plane took off exactly on time and landed 20 minutes early.

22. What do you think of the exhibition?
I don't like it at all.

24. When did you get back from holiday?
One week ago.
We use "since" with Present Perfect.

25. The course was a waste of time. I didn't learn anything new.

27. In the past, the most women stayed at home. Nowadays, the most of them go out to work.
actualmente = now, nowadays, currently...

28. I think it's a safe city. There aren´t many crimes.
safe = not dangerous
sure = no doubts

29. Would you like to try one of these sweets?
"taste" is more for seeing if it is OK.

30. Vietnam was my first choice but in the end we went to Thailand.
An "election" is when you vote.

31. He looks Spanish but he's Swedish actually.

33. How old is your teacher?

34. When did you meet her?

43. I like to stay on the beach until evening to see the sunset.

44. I usually complain if the service is bad in a restaurant; especially if it is expensive.

45. Do you want to go for a few drinks after work?
No, I don't feel like it tonight.

50. I'll see you in a fortnight because I won't be here next week.
a fortnight = two weeks
