Team Shakira or Team Pique (or neither)?

Gerard Pique hits back at ex Shakira's diss track as he turns up to work in a Twingo after she declared he'd 'traded a Ferrari' for the budget car

Gerard Pique has sent a clear message to his ex Shakira amid their very public breakup.

The footballer hit back at his ex's diss track which targets his new romance, by turning up to work over the weekend in a Renault Twingo car.

The £8000 car was a deliberate choice, following Shakira's declaration in her newly released song that the former footballer had 'traded a Ferrari for a Twingo,' when he started dating his new partner Clara Chia Marti.

Smiling for the camera, Gerard happily parked his budget car among the more flashy motors as he arrived for work at his new seven-a-side project King's League in Barcelona.

Shakira has unveiled a diss track aimed at her ex with producer Bizarrap, dubbed Shakira Bzrp Music Sessions 53, which was released in Spanish last week.

The singer makes it crystal clear she is referring to the 23-year-old her former partner is rumoured to have started dating last year before they split, saying: 'I'm worth two 22's. You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo. You traded a Rolex for a Casio.'

While Shakira's new song features some barbed lyrics aimed at Gerard and his supposed new love Clara Chia Marti, she also includes a few choice words for her ex-mother-in-law.

In the song, she sings the line: 'You left my mother-in-law as my neighbour, with the press at the door and the debt in the Treasury...'.

It was revealed over the weekend that Shakira has set up a terrifying lifesize witch doll on the balcony of her Spanish home which reportedly looks over her former mother in law's pad.

Residents in the area have also reported hearing Shakira 'blasting' her new diss track 'at full volume' from her home.

It has been reported that the relationship between Shakira and Montserrat Bernabéu [Gerard's mother] has turned sour after she readily welcomed her son's new romance.

Twitter has been flooded with reports over the song and the scary-looking witch, which has been placed on her balcony, with many hailing her a 'petty queen'.

One person wrote: 'I cba (can't be arsed) with celebrity gossip but when I tell you that I'm LIVING for this Shakira-Pique smoke...

'Shakira apparently has a witch figure on the balcony facing her MIL's home? Go on girl.'

Another said: 'Something really bad must've happened besides the infidelity, Shakira being super direct toward them, the witch, and listening to the song on full volume.

'I wonder what they do to her poor queen.'

A third wrote: 'I'm crying. The news think Shakira keeps this witch in her home as a vigil for the mother in law.'

One other said: 'Shakira is blasting her song exposing her cheating ex Pique on repeat outside her home. She also put a witch on her balcony for some reason.'

Another joked: 'If Shakira ever wants a real-life witch to be on her balcony to antagonize her ex-in-laws, she can call me.'

A different person said: 'Looks like Shakira has found a new way to stay at the top of the charts, by channelling her inner witch and unleashing a voodoo-inspired revenge campaign on her ex-mother-in-law's house. Yalo-lele-leleee!

It was revealed earlier this week that Gerard's supposed new love Clara Chia Mart was pictured in the ex-couple's family home prior to their split.

Shakira appears to be reacting to the news with her latest clap back.

It comes after she was accused of 'internalised misogyny' after revealing the lyrics in her new song which seemingly take a swipe at Clara.

Shakira and Gerard announced their split after 11 years together in June and they share two sons - Milan, nine, and Sasha, seven - together.

But her new lyrics have caused some backlash with many accusing her of internalised misogyny - while others say she is only doing what all male artists do in their songs.

One said: 'The new Shakira song screams internalised misogyny and a bitter divorcee. let it go woman.'

Another who shared an article about the song said: 'Really, Shakira? #misogyny.'

Someone else wrote: 'Shakira objectifies and objectifies herself by denigrating her ex's new partner under the phrase 'change a Rolex for a Casio'. We are humans not objects. There is nothing empowering in being mean to another woman. You have to know how to leave.'

Another continued referring to Clara: 'A woman who has the right to be with whoever she wants because people don't belong to anyone.'

However others defended her for speaking out, as one Tweeted: 'What is happening with Session 53 of Bzrp and Shakira only shows that there is still a level of misogyny, of those who prefer that a woman carry out her process in silence and without bothering anyone.'

Another said: 'Human artistic creation has always been nourished by one's own experiences (especially the bad ones)!'

Since the break-up, Gerard has been spotted passionately kissing his new love interest Clara as they appear to be far from hiding their new relationship.

In an apparent brutal dig at the former Manchester United and Barcelona defender, Shakira sings: 'A lot of gyms. But work your brain a little bit too.'

Shakira makes another clear allusion to Clara with the lyrics: 'She's got the name of a good person. Clearly is not how it sounds.

'Clearly' in English translates as 'Claramente' in Spanish, clearly referencing Clara, as one fan pointed out.

Elsewhere Shakira, who is facing a £12 million tax fraud trial in Spain, sings: 'You left me the mother-in-law as a neighbour. With the press at my door and a debt with the taxman.

'You thought you'd hurt me and I came back stronger. Women don't cry any more, women invoice.'

Another part of the song says: 'From love to hate there's only one step' before Shakira adds: 'No hard feelings baby, I wish you the best with my supposed replacement.'

Only a small part of the lyrics had been leaked online ahead of the world release, referencing a part of the song where the mum-of-two sings: 'I'm too big for you, that's why you're with someone just like you' before continuing: 'I'm not coming back to you, even if you're crying or begging.'

She also used another play-on-words in Spanish with the word 'salpique' in a clear reference to her ex, singing: 'I only make music, sorry that I splash you' which in Spanish is 'Yo solo hago música perdón que te salpique.'

Gerard, who fathered two sons with Shakira during their 11-year relationship, appeared to respond to the poisoned darts thrown in his and his new partner's direction ahead of the song's full release with a tweet featuring circus emoticons.

It is not the first time Shakira has seemingly shaded Gerard in her music after making reference to a 'necessary' split with an ex who is as 'cold as Christmas' in her song Monotonía.

The song, meaning Monotony in English, starts with Shakira singing in Spanish: 'It wasn't your fault, nor was it mine. It was monotony's fault. I never said anything but it hurt me. I knew this would happen.'

She then alludes to the relationship being over before it ended, singing: 'It's a necessary goodbye. What used to be incredible became routine.

'Your lips don't taste of anything to me. Now it's the complete opposite.'

Appearing to reference the end of her relationship, she says: 'You left me because of your narcissism. You forgot what you used to be.

'Distant with your attitude, and that filled me with worry. You didn't give even half. I know I gave more than you.'

In the music video, Shakira walks dejectedly through a supermarket with tears in her eyes before being shot through the chest by bazooka by a mystery man.

Symbolising her heartbreak, she walks through the streets with a hole in her chest, holding her bloody heart in her hand, before someone stamps down on it.

Shakira also took an apparent swipe at Gerard as she penned an Instagram post about healing after betrayal on New Year's Day.

Starting the New Year off on a positive note, she wrote: 'Even if our are still open in this new year, time has surgeon's hands. Even if someone has betrayed us, we must continue to trust others.'

She continued: 'When faced with contempt, continue to know your worth. Because there are more good people than indecent ones. More people with empathy than indifference.

'The ones who leave are fewer than the many who stay by our side. Our tears are not in vain, they water the soil our future will spring from and make us more human, so that even while suffering heartache we can continue to love. Shak.'

Elsewhere, video footage also recently emerged which is said to show Gerard's new girlfriend in the footballer's family home before his split from Shakira.

Shakira has reportedly been left 'devastated' at the unearthed footage from August 2021, which was recorded ten months before she announced she had split from her partner of 11 years.

Clara Chia Marti appears to be in the background of a zoom interview the footballer did from his family home in Barcelona, while Shakira was reportedly abroad with their two children.

Gerard went public with his new girlfriend and co-worker, Clara Chia Marti, 23, after confirming his split from Shakira last summer.

The interview footage shows a woman resembling Clara stepping into the frame as Gerard spoke to US video live streaming service Twitch.

Speaking to Page Six, an insider claims Gerard, 35, and Shakira, 45, were still living 'happily together' at the time.

The source said the singer is 'devastated to learn that this woman clearly felt at home in the house they shared with their children', adding: 'They were very much still together at that time.'

This has been the topic of the week or the month, no doubt, even more than Harry's bio book! ;-)

I guess while I feel more inclined to be on her side this time, for he was the unfaithful one, I remember they say best way to predict the future is observing the past: he had fidelity issues with previous partners and she also wrote several hurt/revenge songs to some ex's so both of them knew quite accurately the kind of person they were dealing with.

That being said, I prefer stronger rage songs like Alanis one - an amazing one in all possible ways - or more positive ones like Miley's recent hit 'Flowers', over the 'I'm a victim' ones like Timberlake's. Always wrath or happiness instead of poor me xD

P.S. I read Shakira started discovering the affair from a jam bottle. I'm not sure if that's true but it could server even as a movie material in 'Gone girl' way.

Evening Su,

Didn't Shakira leave her husband for Pique? Maybe she is getting a taste of her own medicine and it is a case of serves her right. Pique hasn't exactly endeared himself to the average Spaniard with his political protestations. And he has demonstrated that he thinks he is above the laws that we mere mortals have to adhere to. Be sure to click on tweets within the post to read previous stories about the couple.
