Hi Graham,

Barajas: Overlit, overheated, underused, underwhelming

I have just read this stupid article and I have to breathe deeply. I tell myself relax please. Now, I am going to make my comment. I promise that I´m going to be police.

It is said: "No more can you judge a city by its airport" and it does it. After this affirmation it talks about ghost highways, motionless cranes do nothing, clumps of empty apartment blocks, a country living beyond any notion of economic, there are pointless airports like Ciudad Real, Malaga or Castellon and so on.

It is said that Barajas Airport is folly, the concrete apron is so vast and it is impossible to see the end, a terminal is so overlit, overheated, underused and underwhelmed, long concourses, several escalators and big hike, an ode to inefficiency, 18 carousels, vast and empty place where the wasting of space on a massive scale and so on. After these depreciations, it is said that it is fascinating.

Can you believe what it is said in this article? It´s crazy. Is it a moan? I don´t know but it is possible.

Only I mean that the Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport has been considered the best airport of Europe by World Airport Awards of Skytrax in 2007, 2015, 2017 and 2019. There are other studies that say that it is the best airport.

See you.

Don't get your knickers in a twist, José!

As I said in the tweet, I agree with much of what he said. T4 is certainly impressive but you have to walk a fair distance to get anywhere (the boarding gate to destinations in the UK is the furthest away).

My first flight from T4S was just a few weeks after it had opened. I got to the desk minutes before check-in closed (according to my watch) but they refused to allow me to catch the flight. They told me that I would never be able to get through security and make it to the plane on time. They refused to let me even try - I am sure if they had, I would not have been the last passenger on board.

... I promise that I´ll be polite.

It says "No more can you judge a city by its airport" but then it does just that. (Actually that's not true - he makes no criticism of Madrid) After this affirmation it talks about ghost highways, motionless cranes doing nothing, clumps of empty apartment blocks, a country living beyond any notion of economics, pointless airports like Ciudad Real, Malaga or Castellon and so on. (I hate to say it but these are all facts)

After these depreciations, he goes on to say that it is fascinating.

I just want to point out that Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport was considered the best airport of Europe by World Airport Awards of Skytrax in 2007, 2015, 2017 and 2019. There are other studies that say that it is the best airport.

For sure it would be in the running for the airport with the longest name.

Hi Graham,

Chastened King Seeks Redemption, for Spain and His Monarchy

This article is okay. It´s serious and, in my opinion, it´s near of the reality of those events, but I know things about it that the journalist doesn´t know. I told you several misdemeanors before that I can´t write here, in this place.

The king´s supporters who boasted of him, have left him alone now, where are they now? The party that took advantage of him before wants to throw away him now. The German princess, Corinna zy Sayn-Wittgenstein and her son and her former husband who went with him to the Botswana trip, where are they now? Spanish people don´t recognise him already. If you do damage to someone, you will receive the same damage. (Quien siembra vientos, recoge tempestades). Although he was millionaire or billionaire, for what he wants so much money, if he can´t see his children and his grandchildren. He lives out of his home and his country now. There are a lot of things that you can´t buy with money. It´s very sad indeed. Amen.

Whatever he does now it´s worst and it´ll be much worst tomorrow. I think he has lost all opportunities to Spanish people give the redemption to him what he seeks. He should deem the damage what he is doing to his son and the monarchy, although last this isn´t important for the majority.

See you.

Hello Joseph,

It should be noted that this was a tweet from 2012 - Juan Carlos was still on the throne and shortly after he mumbled "I'm sorry. I made a mistake. It won't happen again". Since then, he has continued laughing up his sleeve. If I was caught with my hand in the till, even if I paid back the money, I'd be sent to prison. Why should it be any different for the philandering crook?

Hi Graham,

Sephardic Jews invited back to Spain after 500 years.

If somebody says that he is still Spanish in his soul and in his heart, as one British Sephardic Jew said, I think the Spanish Government should give Spanish nationality to him when he proves that he is descendant of Spanish original Sephardic Jews. Some Muslim are denouncing this offer is unfair, but I don´t agree because their case is different. In my opinion, Sephardic Jews were expelled for reason of religion, while Muslim were expelled because they had invaded Spain and they had conquered almost whole country.

I agree with Mrs Carvajal when she said: "What happens if you´re a secular Jew?" Religion has nothing to do with nationality or citizenship. At the time, the most important thing was religion, but it was a big mistake and, as the article says, when Spain expelled the Jews in 1492 it had a disastrous effect on the Spanish economy. The country was backward.

See you.

Hello Joseph,

I have always heard how the Jews, Muslims and Catholics lived harmoniously alongside each other in Spain. I say RUUUUUUUUBBISH.

I know of examples of people taking advantage of this new law to get dual nationality and it's not because they have any affinity for Spain.

Hi Graham,

Adios Siesta? Spain considers ending Franco´s change to working hours

As you know, the situation in Madrid is this: A civil servant has a cafelito (coffee) and a walk for 45 minutes, no sports pages because he can see them in internet. A worker of a company has a coffee for 25 minutes. Civil servant ends his working day at 6 for two days per week, but the boss at 8 hour. A worker of a company ends at ten hours. In my opinion, nobody takes a siesta. If the workers go home for lunch, they don´t have time to take a siesta because they have to go by the underground or the bus and if the workers go to the restaurant for lunch, I can´t imagine that they take a siesta in the restaurant. I mean that it´s the same than in 2013.

This article said that Spain´s dictator, General"isimo" Franco changed the country´s time zone in 1942, as if he would do anything well. He destroyed until the time.

It says that Spanish people sleep less than the rest of Europe, but I disagree we sleep the same than the French for instance. I do disagree that the Spanish are less efficiency. Spanish companies are smaller that European companies and they have less competitive. This is the reason because of Spaniards are less efficiency.

See you.

Hello José,

I think the long "working" day in Spain is madness. It is no secret that Spanish workers are often away from their desks - there is no hurry to get back to work, whether you are a civil servant or you work for a private company. And when they are back at their workplace, they will be texting friends or surfing the web.

While you should never take statistics at face value, I don't think the excuse that you provide for the inefficiencies in the Spanish workforce is a valid one.

Hi Graham,

Spain pardons cop who filmed sex attack

I wonder if anybody, in this country, has heard that there are principle, law, justice and rules of social harmony. I know that Ministers and parties be ignorant of law and the Constitution. In Spain only common people fulfill law.

You can´t give the pardon to one person who laughs at the victim and crime, because for forgiving a criminal, law and common sense requires that a delinquent commits a crime unintentionally, but in this case the Civil Guard officer was laughing at event, he didn´t prevent crime when it was his duty and, if that were not enough, he filmed it with his mobile.

Mr. Gallardon is an example of what we don´t have to do and it showed that he did misappropriation of rules of pardon and law. He did a lot of actions of misappropriation. For this reason he was Minister. LOL

See you.

Afternoon José,

This story got me fuming. How can the public have confidence in the police knowing that there are people like this in their ranks? How can women have the confidence to report abuse to the police? Can everyone who commits a similar offence be pardoned too or is that only reserved for those with a position in the PP?

It's not surprising that Gallardon's son escaped justice too when he fled the scene of an accident. https://www.thelocal.es/20140617/spains-ruling-party-in-another-hit-and-run-scandal

It's not just those with power that think that they are above the law but also anyone related to them.

Hi Graham,

Spain´s tomato-squishing fiesta stained by row

This fiesta consists of squishing between goo and pulp of tomatoes. It´s a orgy of staining the face of travellers and of hurling rubbish to their clothes. His aim is to spot each other and, then, everyone happy. This waste of food is a way to recover money to pay expenditure of politicians.

Authorities of Buñol said that the essence of the Tomatina had been lost, but I wonder if it has had any essence sometime more than to make money. They said that now it´s more enjoyable because tour companies give sangria and paella to travellers. It´s very wonderful thing.

I suppose that it´s a good opportunity to journey to Spain that is a important place in the world, but the Tomatina, in my opinion, is a boring fiesta. I wish succeed in the future and Buñol could pay its debts as soon as possible.

See you.

Well done, José!

You managed to get through all the old Spanish news stories. You never cease to impress me.

I think La Tomatina has probably lost its appeal over the years though unlike most other festivals in Spàin, no animals have to suffer.
