What journey have you been on?

I don't have a problem with the word journey itself. It's just that suddenly everyone is going on a journey and they are not talking about their holidays or commute to work. They are most likely explaining how they feel about some particular period of their lives or time learning some new skill.  Apparently all the YouTubers and Instagrammers are talking about their journeys. I certainly hear people, celebrities and non-celebrities alike, gushing about journeys on the telly. It is so annoying.

“I’m on a real fitness journey at the moment.”

“It’s been such an emotional journey.”

“Thanks for following my skincare journey.”

“Parenthood is a journey, not a destination.”

“I’ve started my sourdough journey.”

“My healing journey has just begun.”

“Every brand has a story and a journey.”

“It’s been a long journey to get here.”

Hi Graham,

As wordreference says, the dictionary online, the verb commute means “travel to work” but it isn´t right because travel to work is part of the voyage, therefore would be journey instead travel. As you have to come back home, then, commute would be trip instead travel. If you have to commute every days of the week then it would be trip instead travel. (LOL)

The Caledonian Canal is very beautiful. It´s the nices way of Inverness where you can breathe quiet and peace, I think. However, the Inverness Airport is smaller than the Madrid Adolfo Suarez Airport.

I remember the predicament of people trapped in the snow in Madrid. It was dangerous and funny. Police, soldiers and voluntaries rescued thousands of people trapped on roads of Madrid, especially, in the M 30. Some people spend night in their cars and a lot of vehicles crash each other. I couldn´t use my car after three days.

I can´t see the video of the epic journey of a refugee cat, he would be a cousin of Bessie which will be very well, I hope.

See you.

Good afternoon José,

The first part of your comment has left me bamboozled - I can't make head nor tail of it. I thought my explanation of the difference between travel, trip and journey was clear but it seems you still don't get it.

I have fond memories of taking our dog for a long walk along the Caledonian canal and more recently I would run as far as Loch Ness in training for a marathon.

As the online dictionary Word Reference says, the verb commute means “travel to work” but that isn't right because travel to work is part of a voyage (= a long boat journey) , therefore it would be journey instead of travel. As you have to come back home, then, commute would be trip instead of travel. If you have to commute every days of the week then it would be trip instead of travel. (LOL)

The Caledonian Canal is very beautiful. I think it´s the nicest walk/path in Inverness where you can breathe peace and quiet. However, Inverness Airport is smaller than Madrid's Adolfo Suarez Airport.

I remember the predicament of people trapped in the snow in Madrid. It was dangerous yet funny. Police, soldiers and voluntaries rescued thousands of people trapped on the roads of Madrid, especially, on the M 30. Some people spent the night in their cars and a lot of vehicles crashed into each other. I couldn't use my car for three days. (You were lucky - I'm pretty sure my road was cut off for more than a week.)

I can´t see the video of the epic journey of a refugee cat, he would be a cousin of Bessie. I hope it turns out to be a happy ending too. (If you click in the tweet, it'll take you to Twitter and below you'll see the story in the Guardian - it's worth watching)
