One crisp evening, the mayor of a small town decided to take the train for half the fare to the annual autumn fair. On the way, he met a pair of travellers carrying a single pear wrapped in a delicate layer of cloth.

A wild hare darted across the tracks, giving everyone a scare. The travellers clutched their coats so tightly, the seams began to tear.

At the fairgrounds, a storyteller began to share a chilling tale of a nightmare in which a bare tree whispered to its only heir, while shadows seemed to stare from the air itself.
