No tears for two-tier Kier

Source: YouTube (The Telegraph) Key words: Starmer resignation speech Walking up this street two years ago was the proudest moment of my life. A new Labour government. The first in 14 years. A page in our country's history turned after years of disappointment and despair . The chance to change the lives of millions of people for the better. That's what I came into politics for. The journey to that point was not easy. Six years ago, I inherited a Labour Party that was politically, financially and morally bankrupt. I was told, time and time again , that my party was finished. That we were consigned to history , that a majority at the general election, let alone a landslide majority , was impossible. But we proved those people wrong because we changed our party. Ripping out the poison of antisemitism, restoring trust on the economy, defence, and national security. And becoming a party that, once again, stood proudly with , not against, our national flag. The hard work o...

Source: YouTube (SkyNewsAustrlia) Key words: Sunak resignation speech Good morning, I will shortly be seeing His Majesty the King to offer my resignation as Prime Minister. To the country, I would like to say, first and foremost , I am sorry. I have given this job my all.  But you have sent a clear signal that the government of the United Kingdom must change… …and yours is the only judgement that matters.  I have heard your anger , your disappointment ; and I take responsibility for this loss .  To all the Conservative candidates and campaigners who worked tirelessly but without success … …I am sorry that we could not deliver what your efforts deserved .  It pains me to think how many good colleagues… …who contributed so much to their communities and our country… …will now no longer sit in the House of Commons.  I thank them for their hard work, and their service.  Following this result, I will step down as party leader...

King Charles' First Christmas Speech

Image
Source: You Tube (The Royal Family Channel) I am standing here in this exquisite Chapel of St George at Windsor Castle, so clo se to where my beloved mother, the late Queen, is laid to rest with my dear father. I am reminded   of the deeply touching letters, cards and messages which so many of you have sent my wife and myself and I cannot thank you enough for the love and sympathy you have shown our whole family. Christmas is a particularly poig nant time for all of us who have lost loved ones. We feel their absence at every familiar turn of the season and remember them in each cherished tradition. In the much -loved carol O Little Town Of Bethlehem we sing of how “in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light”. My mother’s bel ief in the power of that light was an essential part of her faith in God, but also her faith in people and it is one which I share with my whole heart. It is a belief in the extraordinary ability of each person to touch, with goodnes...

Yet another UK PM

Image
Source: You Tube (Daily Mail)   It has been a huge honour to be Prime Minister of this great country. In particular, to lead the nation in mourning the death of Her Late Majesty The Queen after 70 years of service, and welcoming the accession of His Majesty King Charles III. In just a short period, this government has acted urgently and decisively on the side of hardworking families and businesses. We reversed the National Insurance increase. We helped millions of households with their energy bills and helped thousands of businesses avoid bankruptcy . We are taking back our energy independence… …so we are never again beholden to global market fluctuations or malign foreign powers. From my time as Prime Minister, I am more convinced than ever we need to be bold and confront the challenges that we face. As the Roman philosopher Seneca wrote: “It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare . It is because we do not dare that they are difficult.” We simply ca...

In Liz We Truss?

Good afternoon, I have just accepted Her Majesty The Queen’s kind invitation to form a new government.  Let me pay tribute to my predecessor. Boris Johnson delivered Brexit, the Covid vaccine, and stood up to Russian aggression. History will see him as a hugely consequential Prime Minister. I’m honoured to take on this responsibility at a vital time for our country. What makes the United Kingdom great is our fundamental belief in freedom, in enterprise, and in fair play. Our people have shown grit , courage and determination time and time again . We now face severe global headwinds caused by Russia’s appalling war in Ukraine and the aftermath of Covid. Now is the time to tackle the issues that are holding Britain back . We need to build roads, homes and broadband faster. We need more investment and great jobs in every town and city across our country. We need to reduce the burden on families and help people get on in life . I know tha...

Scotland FM's and UK PM's latest Covid speeches

Image
Source: You Tube (STV News) Key words: Sturgeon Covid speech The last six months have been unprecedented .  They ’ve been the hardest many of us have ever lived through   But through our collective efforts across Scotland, we did beat Covid back.  As a result – although too much heartbreak has been endured and too many families are grieving – many lives were also saved.  But as we enter winter, and with many lockdown restrictions now thankfully lifted , the challenge is once again getting harder.  Albeit from the very low level we achieved in the summer, cases are rising again.  In the last three weeks, they have almost trebled.  And as the virus spreads , we see more people being admitted to hospital again and sadly dying.  So we are once again at a tipping point . We must act to get Covid back under control.  And protect the things that matter most to us.  In a global pandemic of a virus with as yet no vaccine, we simply...

Boris steps into No 10

Source: You Tube (The Telegraph) Key Words: boris johnson first speech Good afternoon I have just been to see Her Majesty the Queen who has invited me to form a government and I have accepted I pay tribute to the fortitude and patience of my predecessor and her deep sense of public service but in spite of all her efforts it has become clear that there are pessimists at home and abroad who think that after three years of indecision that this country has become a prisoner to the old arguments of 2016 and that in this home of democracy we are incapable of honouring a basic democratic mandate And so I am standing before you today to tell you the British people that those critics are wrong The doubters , the doomsters , the gloomste rs – they are going to get it wrong again The people who bet against Britain are going to lose their shirts because we are going to restore trust in our democracy and we are going to fulfil the repeated promises of parliame...
