Hello Alejandro,

I know you told be there was no need to correct this exercise but ...

I would have revised the posts on the different kinds of linkers before doing this exercise. You should consider the position of the linker (start, middle or end of sentence), the punctuation and what kind of word follows it (verb, pronoun or noun).

1. Rob can somehow afford to go on holiday despite not having a job.
2. In spite of the pain, he was able to finish the marathon. Correct

In spite of / Despite + (not) verb-ing / + noun / + the fact that

3. Although he's been a colleague for two years now, I don't know much about him. Correct
4. She didn't get the job EVEN THOUGH she had all the necessary qualifications.

although / even though + clause with verb (followed by ,) + contrasting second clause

5. The plan has a lot of support among the public. There are, however, certain risks involved. Correct

However is followed by , and usually starts the second sentence.

6. He was a ruthless dictator. NEVERTHELESS, many people admire him. / He was a ruthless dictator, yet many people admire him.

Yet is a linker which is used to demonstrate contradicitions and is usually found in the middle of the two ideas.

7. He has had a number of health scares. It hasn't stopped him smoking, though. Correct.

Though comes at the end of the second sentence or in the middle of the two ideas.

8. Mopeds are great for getting around the city. On the other hand, they are involved in many accidents.

On the other hand comes at the start of the second idea followed by a comma.

9. Unlike most of my colleagues, I don't come to work by car. Correct.

Unlike + noun + , + contrasting clause / Clause + unlike + second clause

10. People from the North tend to be reserved whereas people from the South are friendlier. Correct.

Whereas comes in the middle of the two ideas that you compare.

11. It was only a small donation, but it was greatfully received nonetheless. (usually at the end of the second idea) = It was still gratefully received.

12. Prices haven't come down. On the contrary, they have increased. = just the opposite

You didnt do so badly :-)
