In everyday English, a request is more when you want to obtain something whereas a query is simply a question.
In a restaurant you can request (ask for) the bill and then query it (you ask if they have made a mistake).
I like the sound of the word query. It rhymes with theory, dreary, cheery, weary and eerie.
