Youglish

Youglish is a website where you can hear the pronunciation of words in context. You can also discover interesting videos to watch.

First choose the accent(s):


 Then think of a word that you want to learn

Put the word into the search engine to find all the videos in which it is spoken:


You can click  on any word in the subtitles to discover its meaning and more information about it:


You can discover collocations that use the word (e.g. take thorough notes, have a thorough understanding of sth):



You'll find these symbols on the bottom left of the video. Click on the one in the middle to listen to the word again,, the symbol to the right to listen the same word in the next video and the symbol to the left is to go back to previous videos:


If they are speaking too fast for you and you want to catch the sounds of individual words, you can decrease the speed (see bottom right of the video):



 You can look for expressions too.


Put the expression in inverted commas ".....":


When you use a verb, you can put it into different forms:




You can also ask partial or full questions e.g. What's it like?






You can also find videos related to a topic (e.g. your job, interests, holiday destination, famous person etc.) by searching for a specific word or expression:
