Hotel Review

Last weekend I stayed in the Parador in Fuente De - Picos de Europa. I thought it was a pleasant place and very reasonably priced.

Here are some of the reviews (I didn't read any of them before booking):

“A bit disappointing”

The location is amazing and can't be faulted. The hotel itself was satisfactory, but the receptionist was a bit dry and unfriendly. This may also sound petty but after asking where we could buy tickets for the cable car (thus making it obvious that we were going up the mountain), I later saw a sign in the lift saying that if we bought the tickets at the parador, they'd be at a discounted price. I'm unsure as to why we weren't told about this (we had gone up the stairs before so we hadn't seen the poster in the lift). Anyway, the room was fine and fairly clean and the car park is free. Not all rooms have a lovely view (we had a view of a tree and part of the inside car park). Bear in mind that if you stay here and want to eat out in the evening (the restuarant was rather expensive at the hotel), it's a long drive into the nearest town.

“Rustic hotel amid majestic mountains”

This parador is located at the end of a drive through the Picos de Europa which are majestic mountains , lots of hills with sheep and cows grazing and small farms all around. The scenery is gorgeous. This hotel is rather spare, but clean and the room is of a decent size. The beds were not very comfortable and were rather low to the ground. It reminded me of a southwestern hotel in the United states. We ate in the dining room and the food was very good and quite plentiful with good wine being served. The air was cool and crisp and the remote setting was very pretty. There is a funicular right outside the door whcih will take you up for a view from 6,000 feet when the fog and mist do not block your view.
“Great Location”

Nicely situated with mountains all around. Rather uninspired and dated decoration but the rooms were clean and comfortable with a nice enclosed balcony. Once again for a Parador, the reception staff were efficient but cool and not exactly welcoming after a long drive. We asked for details regarding the cable car but were not advised that we could get a discount as residents of the hotel - only saw that on a poster after the event. We decide to eat out for dinner and breakfast elsewhere on this occasion.
“Location, location, location”

The parador is located to take advantage of its stunning situation and the scenery around it is spectacular. It was built about forty years ago in the style of a mountain lodge and it is a bit old-fashioned but the rooms are generous, comfortable and well-appointed. Staff were friendly and efficient. We ate well at dinner and at breakfast and I'd have liked to stay longer to enjoy both the setting and the facilities.

“A fabulous location”

I may be the only one who didn't care for this hotel. The location is amazing but the layout is poor. To get to our room you had to go up 2 separate flights of stairs and DOWN one! The room was ok but the soundproofing was miserable and there was a poor unhappy baby that ensured we were all unhappy .As a note, in the 3 paradors we stayed at in Spain, they were all lovely on the outside and had uncomfortable beds and poor soundproofing. We had better accommodations in 2-star hotels. And of course, the wifi did not work in our area of the hotel.

Fortunately we didn't spend much time in the room and the hiking is incredible. If your car needs diesel, fill up the tank in Potes - there's nothing close.

The last summer we spent seven days at Budapest. We rent an appartment in the center of the city (an official building of the communist era, reconverted). A perfect location. Not too big, but very nice and clean. Very convenient, next to the metro, next to the bus, and not far from the Danuvio river. The area is full of restaurants, pubs, shops, supermarkets, etc. And very cheap too!. So, if you´re planning to go to Budapest, I recommend you this place...

Hi, Graham. Muy review.

After reading some unpleasant comments about those accommodations we got there expecting the worse thing. We were travelling with a couple of friends and all of us were quite a few satisfied about our stay there.
This cottage is run by a very nice family made up by the grandparents, parents and children. They have a kitchen garden where they grow the vegetables they usually serve you for dinner. Breakfast is delicious…you can’t miss it.
The rooms are spacious and quite clean. It is really well placed if you want to visit “Los Arribes del Duero” .
Nevertheless, a thing was funny: they ask us to take towels!!

See you tomorrow.

Roberto, I've just read your comment. I'm going to go to Budapest next February but we already have booked a hotel. You have to tell me about your trip!!

Hi Roberto,

I thought about going to Budapest in September but I spent too much money on holiday in August. I was there more than twenty years ago, just after the fall of communism. I'd love to go back because I had a great time there.

Hi Montse,

Whereabouts is the hotel?

How strange that they asked you to bring your own towels.

Thanks!. Only one question: I don´t understand why is "River Danube"..."Danube River" is incorrect?.

Hi Roberto,

We can say the River Danube or the Danube.

I went through all the rivers in my head:

the River Seine
the River Rhine
the River Thames
the River Manzanares
the River Ness (my river)

and then I got to the Mississippi or the Mississippi River.

So I have discovered that there is a difference between American English and British English.

This summer I`ve been in Valencia for a few days. I stayed in a hotel near the oceanographic. I recommend it! The hotel is in a perfect location: near the beach, city center and shopping streets. Valencia isn´t a very beautiful city but you can do many things. It´s a ideal destination for a few days near Madrid. Also if you take the AVE, you will arrive in an hour and a half. This hotel has a very confortable rooms, clean and the price is perfect. You can fin a pool on the terrace with ideal city views.

The only bad thing is the breakfast, not recommended but it`s up to you catch it or not.

Hi Vanessa,

How are you doing? You seem to have been busy studying English - keep it up!

I agree with you. There may be many things to do in Valencia but it's not such a beautiful city.

Hi Vanessa,

I've just spotted another mistake.

"Ideal views" sounds bad.

You might say "incredible" or "stunning views of the city".

Here it is the review of the apartment where we stayed last week in Rome:

Last week, my family and I stayed in an apartment at the countryside of Rome for five days. It was worthy paying for that flat because the realation between the quality and the price was fine. It was neither close to the city center nor too far. Space was enough for us (four people), everything was clean and well-appointed. What I liked the most was the terrace, a very open space where we could enjoy the famous italian weather having a coffee in the morning. What I found worst was the bed, its mattress was old and rather unconfortable.
