No sympathy for elephant hunting King

King Juan Carlos of Spain operated on after 'elephant hunting' accident.

He was operated on for four hours to replace his hip at a hospital in Madrid on Saturday morning, after suffering a triple fracture which the Royal Palace said was "linked to arthritis".

The accident happened in Botswana during what the palace described as a private hunting trip.

Many Spaniards reacted with anger, with criticism of his expensive hobby at a time when his nation is mired in economic crisis with high unemployment and real suffering, especially for the young.

Grammar point:

Now we know why he didn't visit his grandson in hospital.

If he hadn't had the accident, we'd never have found out about the hunting trip.

hi Graham!
I read the past afternoon the four articles about the wild hunting of our dear king. I am indignant. Tomorrow,if I have enough time I would like to write something more about the king's actions.

I can't undertand that the king killed her brother with a shootgun
and now he can hunt wild animals without psicologic problems.

I am tired and I am going to the bed now

oh!Jose I can't see your comments. I would like know your comments
Bye.
Lucía.

Hi Lucía!

I wonder if the King's photo has been taken down from the wall in our class.

While respecting the institution of the monarchy, I have never shared the average Spaniard's admiration of the King.

Everybody refers to his actions during the transition to democracy. However, he wasn't on bad terms with Franco. Infact, he often went on hunting trips with him.

I read the four articles about the hunting by our dear king this afternoon.

I can't understand how the king, after killing his brother with a shotgun,
can hunt wild animals now without any psicological problems.

If I had killed someone with a gun, I wouldn't be able to handle a gun ever again.

oh!Jose I can't see your comments. I would like to know your comments.

Let's see if José supports the King's actions. :-)

Lucía: Only out. He is unpresentable and outrageous. The title of this film is “The Bully”. ¿Who can defender him? Your loyalists, fans o monarchists must to be shamed. The comment of Graham is right, during the transition to democracy he never was a fair democrat, in fact, he did the 23 of February, although a lot of people think opposite, I remember that I was half night expect that he appeared in the tv to said: “Don’t worry Spanish people”. Did you remember Lucía? You were a young woman. You can ask your parents.

I don´t agree with the monarchy. The Spanish Constitution, Statement of Human Rights, The human genome and the own life, all say that all human beings are equal. ¿Why does it have different people? I can´t understand that in this century was monarchy and kings and different people.

In USA isn´t monarchy, neither republic and United States work very well. Personally, it is sufficient a system to access to government, without ideology or old systems. We don´t need kings, gods, myth and legends. The kings look like country bumpkin (paletos) or people from old time.

See you soon. José.

Hi José!

I created the "wait v expect v hope" post especially for you and Lucía.

See if you understand the differences now.

Thank very much Graham. With “Only out” I want to say a shot expression like go out, outside or in Spanish “Solamente fuera”. I am going to work with wait, expect and hope. José.

hi graham!

I have been remembering the vocabulary.

Hi José!

I've been puzzling over your "only out" expression but I'm still not sure if I get it.

Maybe you mean - "only on the outside".

"On the outside", the King is friendly but underneath he is cool and calculating.

Ah another thing - "es un impresentable", we say "he's a disgrace".

Thanks very much / thank you very much Graham. With “Only out” I meant a short expression like go out, outside or in Spanish “Solamente fuera”.

OK Lucía,

You should note down an example of the words in bold from an English-English dictionary like Cambridge.

Thank you very much Graham. It´s better he´s a disgrace. Also he´s a shame. See you soon. José

José,

We can't say "he's a shame".

"It's a shame" is like "it's a pity".
