April Fools' Day 2014

Some of you may know that it is April Fool's Day in the UK. It's much the same as El Dia de los inocentes in Spain.

In most newspapers you will find an article that is designed to fool people.

Here is a selection of made-up stories that appeared in today's newspapers:

Scot-free! Union Jack gets a Yes vote makeover: Secret Government papers reveal how flag will look if Scotland votes for Independence Source: Daily Mail

Exclusive: UN draws up peacekeeping plans in event of Scottish Yes vote Source: Independent

Kim Jong-un BANS One Direction from entering North Korea - unless they get their hair cut Source: Daily Mirror

Appetite for selfie-destruction: British government plans to ban selfies Source: Metro

There are also stories that at first glance look like April Fools' stories but turn out to be true:

Hi!
I've read the first article, in UK it is a joke but this article remaind me that in Spain has happen the follow truth fact : the name of the airport in Madrid has been changed from MADRID-BARAJAS to ADOLFO SUAREZ. That isn't a joke and it will cost between half million and one million of euros.

That's is a pity by we are Spanish.

I'll follow reading next one.

I´ts funy...there are made-up stories, but, from time to time, you can read very similar real news on the newspapers(like new strange, stupid, and non-sense rules). "Appetite for selfie-destruction" it´s a play on words based on "Appetite for destruction"(the Guns and Roses´ record). Maybe it can be a good idea to ban the "selfies"(I think most people are too obsessed with their self-phones!).

Hi Montse,

I had heard that they plan to change the name of Barajas but I didn't know how much it would cost.

I think that they should honour the man in some way but maybe it's not the best moment to be spending money on such things.

It is shameful but we are Spanish.

I'll start reading the next one.

Hi Roberto,

I agree with you.

This craze of taking selfies has got to stop.

Graham, I think the previous post about Barajas is Lucia's, not mine.

See you tomorrow
